Hello world!

26 Jan

Hey team,

Let the good works begin.

This blog post will address all our installation process and any problems we encounter.

After each one of us has successfully set up their computers and hooked all the required sources, we shall start another post that will detail our process of trying out the new approach to blender to android and iOS.

I am looking through the blender kit and the ogre game kit . Installed them successfully and played around with the monkey demo. I am currently working on the blender animation and looking through forums on gamekit. I think so far, i can say gamekit is an ongoing development. Compilation works best in Linux

Well its not that easy with Linux cos I fiddled all week with it..
Going over to windows, i think i now know what the problem is right now.

So for this week where do we start from… This is a blender-Gamekit tutorial i found, seems a bit old but we may find something about how to port games on this.

    Hey guys,

I came across these sites that might be helpful to our work.

    http://www.vtc.com/products/Game-Development-for-iPhone-iPad-Using-Unity-iPhone-Tutorials.htm

    http://www.vtc.com/products/Introduction-to-Game-Development-Using-Unity-3D-Tutorials.htm

My suggestion is since James has some experience with Unity and these are tutorials for Unity, lets use them to really understand the game porting process and translate such skills to Gamekit.

    What do you think.

i installed Ogre gamekit successfully . Its a long process also but first here are the steps. would be sending a full blown step by step way of installing blender much later.
    1. set your path to android ndk
    2. download the Ogre Gamekit Trunk using subversion server
3.Configure the Trunk for C,CXX compilation using CMake
    4.Build/Make Ogre Gamekit
5.Set up eclipse environment for test with mobile phone.

I was able to install the ogre demo on the android phone but it keeps crashing. gives me a message ‘org.gamekit.jni’ stopped unexpectedly. I am thinking i have a missing library.kit.so file missing so it cant render its images successfully. I am going shopping for that now.

I am stuck at step 3 now…and several people have the same problems, it says :”

The C compiler identification is unknown
The CXX compiler identification is GNU
Check for working C compiler: C:/AnimKit_r1007/android-ndk-r7/toolchains/arm-linux-androideabi-4.4.3/prebuilt/windows/bin/arm-linux-androideabi-g++.exe
CMake Error: Generator: execution of make failed. Make command was: make “cmTryCompileExec\fast”
Check for working C compiler: C:/AnimKit_r1007/android-ndk-r7/toolchains/arm-linux-androideabi-4.4.3/prebuilt/windows/bin/arm-linux-androideabi-g++.exe — broken
CMake Error at C:/Program Files (x86)/CMake 2.8/share/cmake-2.8/Modules/CMakeTestCCompiler.cmake:52 (MESSAGE):

is not able to compile a simple test program.

It fails with the following output:

      Change Dir: C:/AnimKit_r1007/Build Android/CMakeFiles/CMakeTmp

      Run Build Command:make “cmTryCompileExec\fast”

The system cannot find the file specified

Generator: execution of make failed. Make command was: make
      “cmTryCompileExec\fast”

CMake will not be able to correctly generate this project.
Call Stack (most recent call first):
      CMakeLists.txt:8 (project)

      Configuring incomplete, errors occurred!

James, we finally got it to port successfully on android..Gamekit that is. The main game just doesn’t have controls yet. I think we just need to change that from blender, to use certain touch screen patterns.

But its successful on android for now.
